Yellow and Red Lightsaber Knowledge Summary
Jedi Temple Guards use this yellow lightsaber, which is a double-edged yellow sword spear they carry. We know very little about the lightsaber of this particular color, so whether the yellow lightsaber was purposely used to differentiate the guards, or whether the crystals turned yellow after the selection of the temple guards, is unclear. Both Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tano used this lightsaber at some point.
In the Gaiden, the yellow lightsaber is used by the Jedi Sentinels. Also, after the ancient Jedi Jaden Korr purifies the crystals of a red lightsaber, this lightsaber also turns yellow.
The Sith use this red lightsaber. The Jedi can bond with the Kyber crystal, which then changes color. Unlike the Jedi, the Sith cannot establish contact with crystals and must steal them or forge lightsabers by other means. This process is called "bleeding" and it is pouring all their hatred, fear, and other negative emotions into the crystal, causing the crystal to "bleed" and turn red.
In the Gaiden, the Sith are also unable to use kyber crystals to forge lightsabers, so they make synthetic crystals, which turn them red. This red lightsaber is mainly used by Sith such as Darth Vader, Count Dooku, Darth Maul (with a double-edged red lightsaber), Darth Sidious and Kylo Ren.
In the legend, other crystals other than kyber crystals are also used to forge lightsabers, and the color of the blade varies from crystal to crystal. Therefore, in Star Wars Gaiden, we can see lightsabers in various colors, such as silver, cyan, gold, turquoise, bronze, etc.
